Logistics Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Determines logistics strategies, directs, and supervises the activities for worldwide transportation services and activities related to the importation/ exportation of goods, and their transportation from the point of delivery to their delivery at the final destination. This includes activities related to warehousing, consolidation, storage, packaging, and control of hazardous and oversized goods being delivered to the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Provides leadership and works collaboratively in a team environment with the ability to influence others with new ideas, innovative solutions, and concepts in relation to Logistics operations.
  • Supervises and provides feedback regarding the work performance of personnel under his responsibility.
  • Prepares the annual work plan of his/ her department and establishes the overall and individual goals.
  • Follows up the compliance of individual and department performance indicators and goals.
  • Compiles, prepares, and presents (as necessary) reports and executive notes to stakeholders.
  • Trains and promotes the development of personnel assigned to his/her department utilizing the training resources provided by the company.
  • Contributes with other departments in the definition and implementation of shared institutional programs such as internal control systems, business plan, performance evaluations, training program, customer satisfaction surveys, quality assurance program, etc.
  • Acts as liaison with other department heads such as Purchasing and Finance in matters of Logistics (in transit out of the country of origin to Mexico, and from Mexico to country of Origin), and for any activities related to claims.
  • Provides guidance for activities related to claims.
  • Supports the control of activities associated with expediting, inspections, receipt of materials and equipment, physical verification and entering of related information into the automated system.
  • Supervises the monitoring of warehouse inventories and actions taken to expedite the shipment, reception, and customs clearance of goods in route to their final destinations.
  • Approves calculus of liquidated damages for delay claims to suppliers in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Purchase Orders.
  • Resolves disputes with customers of discrepant shipment/receiving errors and service acceptance registry issues.
  • Ensures that the forwarding agents and Customs Brokers have access to specific and detailed technical data so that they may assign the tariff classification of the goods.
  • Supervises the subcontracting of inspection companies.
  • Supervises the subcontracting of carriers for the transportation of goods directly to destination, including those shipments classified as emergencies or special cargo.
  • Supervises the Logistics Team.
  • Supervises Claims activities; Negotiates on behalf of Pemex the recovery of damaged/lost materials.
  • Negotiates freight rates with carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Assists end users in clarifications related to invoices for services rendered by international carriers, freight forwarders and domestic carriers.
  • Determines and supervises KPI’s for Logistics Services.
  • Identifies strategies and actions needed to maintain quality of the services.
  • Supervises the operation in activities performed by contractors, freight forwarders and domestic/international carriers.
  • Performs other related duties and relevant special projects, as required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to generate reports and analyze data.
  • Ability to make public presentations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Ten years of demonstrated experience in supply chain management, Logistics, or related field.

Requirements

  • A four-year college degree in an engineering discipline or business degree with an analytical orientation.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Travel: 20% - 50% of the time in the United States, Mexico, or as required.

Language: Fluent in English and Spanish.

Special requirements:

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs. occasionally.
